    Because they trap more air in them. Air is a thermal insulator, and blankets keep you warm by holding the warm air around you next to your skin.

    Because there is more stuffing in them so they reflect your own body heat back to you. Thin blankets let it pass right through. Good question!!!

    There is more to hold the heat in. Down comforters have that layer of cloth, PLUS all those tiny feathers have surface area to trap the heat in as well. A thin cloth blanket just has that one layer to trap your body heat.

    the down fibers of the filling provide air pockets that trap and hold your body warmth…they’re great, aren’t they…

    As with any thing that helps with insulating, the more trapped air chambers the better. Thin blankets has very few traped air chamber, thick ones have many more. Again the more trapped air chambers the better the insulating factor with be.
